Apostille for Certified Passport Copies

A passport itself is not normally apostilled. What overseas authorities usually ask for is a copy of your passport certified by a UK notary or solicitor, with an apostille added to that certification.

What certification means

The notary or solicitor checks your original passport, makes a copy and certifies that it is a true copy. The apostille then confirms their signature and seal. The same approach applies to other identity documents, such as a driving licence.

What to ask the recipient

  • Do they want only the photo page, or every page?
  • Does it have to be certified by a notary specifically, rather than a solicitor?
  • Does it need translating?
  • How recent must the certification be?

Bring the original

Certification can only be done by someone who has seen your original passport, so you will need it available for the certification appointment.

Cost

Our apostille price is £100 per document, including the FCDO fee and tracked return. Notarisation or solicitor certification, where needed, is quoted separately before you pay. See our pricing page for details.
