Apostille for India: Using UK Documents in India

India is a party to the Hague Apostille Convention. A UK public document only needs an apostille to be accepted there, and Indian embassy legalisation is not required.

Is an apostille enough for India?

The apostille confirms that the UK signature, seal or stamp is genuine. English-language documents are generally accepted in India, but offices differ, so ask the receiving office whether it needs a translation or has any other requirements.

Common reasons people need one

  • Marriage registration
  • Property purchases and inheritance
  • Education and employment
  • Business and company matters
  • Family and civil status records

What we need from you

  • Your original document, or a certified copy where that is allowed
  • What it is for, so we can confirm the right route
  • Any solicitor or notary certification already done

Cost and timing

Our apostille price is £100 per document. This includes the FCDO fee and tracked return, and we aim to finish within 2 working days of your documents arriving at our office.

Before you order

Private documents such as degrees and powers of attorney must be certified by a UK solicitor or notary before they can be apostilled. We can arrange that and quote it separately.
